Applicable degree fields include horticulture, forestry, conservation, and environmental science. Any student who has completed 24 credit hours at an Iowa college or university may apply. The one-year scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1000 to one candidate. The scholarship may be renewed, at the discretion of the Iowa County Master Gardeners. Applicants for this scholarship should: 1. Complete the one-page application form. 2. Write and attach a minimum 250-word essay describing how this scholarship will assist in attaining a career in their field. Include information about special circumstances, past or present, that are of a personal or financial nature that present unique challenges. 3. Append two letters of recommendation. 4. Return the application, essay, and recommendations to the Iowa County Extension office by April 30, 2017. The scholarship grant will be transferred directly to the student's account in the Business Office at the school they attend. The grant will apply toward tuition, books, room, board, and fees. No outright gifts will be made. The scholarship recipient agrees to furnish grades and report on their progress to the Iowa County Master Gardeners. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) announces its 2017 Young Entrepreneur Awards Program which will award up to 100 awards to high school seniors entering an accredited, nonprofit two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical institute for the 2017-18 academic year and who own and/or operate his or her established business.
The 2017 program application cycle is open from October 1, 2016 until December 18, 2016.

The Better Business Bureau's Torch Awards for Ethics is offering the Student of Integrity Scholarship of $2,500 awarded to 8 high school seniors. The school is only able to have one applicant. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates sound character and ethical decision making. If you are interested in applying on behalf of HLV, please write a 1,000 word essay explaining one situation you have personally faced that required you to demonstrate an understanding of ethical decision making. What challenges did you face and what life lessons did you learn from your experience? Don't just think about right and wrong in terms of legality. Think outside the box! Include your own personal definition of integrity.
Please submit your essay to Mrs. Robison by December 15th at 3:30to be considered to represent HLV. The best essay will be allowed to apply to for the scholarship.

Indian Hills Community College Foundation Scholarships
I would like to let you know that our Foundation Scholarship application was opened earlier this year, October 15. The priority deadline has also been pushed up to January 31, 2017. This will allow us to let your students know about their award earlier than previous years. Students meeting the priority deadline will be notified of their award around the first of April. Students can still submit their application after the priority deadline, and those applications will be reviewed, but this does not mean funds will be available.
Please encourage your students to submit the Foundation Scholarship application by January 31, 2017.
