Guidelines for Your Students

  • The 2022-2023 FAFSA will be completed using 2022 tax information. Your students DO NOT have to wait until 2023 taxes are done. They can start right away on October 1.

  • The 2022-2023 FAFSA needs to be completed BEFORE the school's financial aid priority date. Each school has their own deadline, to help your students find theirs click here. With the new change to October 1, many schools have changed their prioirty dates so it's important to check. Many dates are much earlier than in past years.

  • The University of Iowa and Iowa State University have a December 1 prioirty date. The University of Northern Iowa has a January 15 priority date.

  • Since 2022 taxes are already complete, most of your students should be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval within the FAFSA, reducing the chance of verification.

  • To help your students prepare click here for a list of the documents and information they need to complete the FAFSA form.
